The Axel Springer publishing company, established in 1946 by Axel Springer, has become the largest publisher of newspapers and the third largest of magazines in Germany. It is also one of the leading media companies in Europe.
Its extensive media portfolio includes well-established brand groups such as BILD and WELT. Through consistent internationalization and digitization, Axel Springer SE is not only in German's market leader in the printing business but also through subsidiaries, joint ventures and licenses active in 44 countries. Axel Springer SE generates more than a third of its revenues from international business and digital media each.
The listed company has had its headquarters in Berlin since 1985. In 2013, more than 11,500 employees achieved an EBITDA of EUR 559 million.
Ringier AG
Ringier was established in 1833 in Zofingen, Switzerland. It is since more than 180 years a one hundred percent family-owned business, and is currently being run by the fifth generation. Today Ringier is a multinational integrated media company and one of the most important media enterprises in the Swiss home market.
Ringier publishes more than 120 newspapers and magazines worldwide, produces and markets various TV programmes, and has significant shareholdings in TV and radio broadcasting companies. It also organises events and concerts with ticketing, manages more than 200 web and mobile platforms, and operates various printing plants. Ringier exemplifies a pioneering spirit, individualism, independence and freedom of speech, as well as a plurality of information.
The company has its headquarters in Zürich, has approximately 7,500 employees groupwide and in 2015 achieved an EBITDA of CHF 96,1 million.
